About HKGIAA

Enhance the professional service level of general insurance intermediaries, unite the insurance industry, and advocate for the sustainable development of the industry and the rights of general insurance intermediaries.

The Hong Kong General Insurance Agents Association was officially established in 1997. It is the only association in Hong Kong that exclusively represents general insurance agents. Its members include both corporate and individual agents, most of whom are rooted in Hong Kong and have been engaged in the general insurance agency business for many years. The purpose of the association is to enhance the professional service level of general insurance agents, unite the insurance industry, and advocate for the ongoing good development of the industry and the rights of general insurance agents.

The association actively participates in consulting on the formulation of professional codes for insurance intermediaries as well as the examination systems and content for intermediaries. Each year, it regularly conducts continuing education courses and thematic seminars. For many years, it has maintained close connections and cooperation with various intermediary organizations within the insurance industry, providing feedback to the government on insurance policies and industry matters. Additionally, it engages in exchange activities with the domestic insurance industry every year, including the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Insurance Intermediary Exchange Meeting and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Banking and Insurance Business Exchange Meeting.

Mr. H.L. Leung, the founding chairman of the Hong Kong General Insurance Agents Association, recalls the situation of the insurance industry at that time:

The government decided to reduce the number of insurance companies that could be represented to four. At that time, there was no association to represent general insurance agents in communication with the government. Later, we formed the Hong Kong General Insurance Agents Association with like-minded individuals. However, due to the lack of participation and support from major financial institutions in insurance agency, our negotiating power was diminished, resulting in the current situation where only four insurance companies can be represented, which restricts customer service. Nevertheless, thanks to the years of effort by various committee members, the association has gained recognition from the industry, including the Insurance Agents Registration Board and the Insurance Authority, significantly enhancing its status.

To continue playing a bridging role between the government and enterprises and to improve member development, we aim to enhance the authority, representation, inclusiveness, and influence of our association within the industry. We sincerely invite your company to join us, so we can work together to unite and innovate, striving for a more professional status for the insurance industry and making greater contributions to its development.
